Pan-Hellenic Festival for the exchange
of local seed varieties

12th Pan-Hellenic Festival for the Exchange of Local Varieties

On April 21th 2012 on Peliti land in Mesochori, Municipality of Paranesti, Drama Prefecture, Greece. see the map

The festival was started by Peliti in 1999 as a need to distribute the varieties that had been collected with great effort and were being destroyed. Today, the festival embraces people from all the country and from abroad, a festival-hallmark on the issue of local varieties in Greece and not only Greece.

For the 12th Pan-Hellenic festival we have invited as guests cultivators from all over Greece but also from many corners of the earth. The festival is open to anyone interested, regardless of whether they have seeds or not.

All those that intend to bring seeds of traditional varieties, plants or indigenous animals must fill in and submit their application form by 15th March 2011.

Entrance to the festival is free

In March 1999, “Peliti” organised the first Pan-Hellenic feast for the exchange of local varieties at Karpi, located in Kilkis prefecture.  The 10th festival will take place  for the first time on Peliti land, on April 10, 2010 in Mesohori, municipality of Paranesti, region of Drama, Greece. The celebration starts at 11am until 4pm. Throughout the day there will be various people speaking about local varieties of seeds & livestock. Farmers from Greece & other countries will exchange seeds & also donate seeds to new farmers to sample.
The goals of this feast are:
-         To distribute traditional seed varieties to as many farmers as possible.
-         To create a network of farmers who will exchange seeds, information and experience concerning traditional varieties.
-         To provide seeds to farmers who did not have previous access to traditional varieties
-         To exchange everything freely, without the mediation of money.
The 10th Pan-Hellenic Festival for the exchange of local seed varieties will take place  for the first time on Peliti land, on April 10, 2010 in Mesohori, municipality of Paranesti, region of Drama, Greece.
