7th Pan-Hellenic Festival

for the exchange of local seed varieties

on Saturday, April 14th, 2007 from 11am to 4pm

On Saturday, April 14th, 2007 Peliti, in cooperation with the Timios Prodromos Monastery, is organizing the 7th Pan-Hellenic Festival for the exchange of local seed varieties at the Timios Prodromos monastery near the village of Anatoli on Mt. Kissavos in the province of Larissa.

Objectives and Conditions

1.  To make local vegetable and grain varieties available to as many farmers as possible.

2.  To get farmers of local seed varieties in contact, to exchange seeds, knowledge, information and experiences.

3.  To give farmers who don’t have local varieties the chance to get them.

4.  To have all exchanges done freely, without the use of money.

Who can attend

All farmers who keep traditional seed varieties can attend regardless of their farming method as long as they accept the objectives of the festival.

Note:  Every farmer must state their method of farming.

Farmers who wish to attend must submit their application no later than February 28th, 2007.  Upon arrival at the festival grounds, farmers should get a nametag from the secretary in order to participate in the meetings.

The festival is open to all who are interested, whether they have seeds or not.

There will be a communal meal in the afternoon, made mostly with local produce, supplied by the participating farmers and by friends. You can contribute to the meals if you wish.

Organization:

The festival is organized by Peliti and will be held on the grounds of the Timios Prodromos Monastery near the village of Anatoli on Mt. Kissavos in the province of Larissa.  Peliti is a strictly voluntary organization; all who participate are volunteers.

How to get there

By car:  While traveling on the Thessaloniki – Athens highway near Larissa, take the Agia exit.  While following the signs towards Agia, you pass through the village of Eleftherio.  Then take a left towards Dimitra and follow the signs for Anatoli.  Once in the village of Anatoli you take a left and follow the signs to get to the monastery.

By Larissa KTEL:  You can reach the village of Anatoli with the Larissa KTEL.  For information and the bus schedule call 2410537737.  If you decide to take the KTEL, inform us about your time and day of arrival so we can pick you up from the village and drive you to the monastery.

If you don’t have your own transport or you can not take the bus, inform us and we will make other arrangements.

It is important you bring warm clothes, you will need them.  If it rains, the event will go on as scheduled.
